Outdoor Active
Activities and sports in and around the West Coast are plentiful. The Lagoon has so many possibilities to offer, wind driven, motor- and man-powered alike. The crystal clear water and the sandy beaches are truly inviting, so spend your recreational time right here.

Since the early nineties Windsurfing, and subsequently Kitesurfing have become great attractions for the thrill seekers. Thanks to steady winds and flat water conditions on the Lagoon, the town has become one of the world’s best known wind-and kite-surfing spots for which tuition, rental and sales are offered by local companies who offer professional and safe teaching to world-class standards.

Kayaking on a windless day, experiencing the serene tranquility of the Lagoon and its surroundings will help anybody, no matter how stressed, to find peace and quiet within. With the abundance of marine life, Anglers can pit their wits against a formidable variety of fish, including Stumpnose and Elf which abound, as well as Steenbras and Cob to name just a few. 2010 will see Langebaan hosting an international Angling competition.

Back to shore and for the sportier visitor, the region offers some scenic and fairly accessible biking trails. A ride into the West Coast National Park and to Geelbek and back is a mere 30km and will not take you longer than 2 hours. Off road trails are also available for the more adventurous cyclists.

View the beauty of our region on horseback! Various establishments offer trails for experienced as well as novice riders. Special pony rides for your children can also be arranged. The young and young at heart will find loads of fun at Sunny Park. Putt Putt and Pool are on offer as well as trampolines and jumping castles in various shapes and sizes. The waterslide promises squeals of delight for everyone, with quad-biking and a go-carting track also on offer.

Birding is another very popular activity for visitors. Langebaan is part of the Flamingo Bird Route and is within the West Coast Biosphere. Birding Information Brochures and Birding checklists are available to enhance the visitors birding experience.

Golfers are spoilt for choice on the West Coast! The 18-hole Gary Player Black Knight designed golf course in Langebaan is an unforgettable experience, with more than a hint of Gary Player’s design philosophy. There are well-positioned bunkers and his typical routing for all levels of golfers. Throw in some amazing natural rock formations; the large water feature separating the 10th and 18th fairways and the natural wild flowers, bird and animal life, and it is clear that Langebaan Country Estate will have you coming back for more!

Vredenburg golf club is a 9-hole course with 18 different teeing areas providing 18 holes of golf. The design of the course is a combination of a links type due to the semi-desert area but it also has all the characteristics of a typical parklands golf course with trees and bush lining all the fairways. The greens have often been rated as the best in the Cape.
Visit Shelley Point near St Helena Bay and experience their unique 9 hole course with the roar of the sea for company, together with their luxury clubhouse and guest lodge.

The Cape West Coast Peninsula is also home to Club Mykonos, a Greek style resort and casino that promises entertainment for young and old. And as the sun sets after a fun filled day, admire our beautiful sunsets and experience the peace and tranquility from a sunset cruise. Imagine the sunset silhouetting the natural beauty of our vast open landscapes.

A unique people and place experience where real life begins! We invite you to visit and celebrate the smile within!
