Heritage & Tourism Day: 24 September 2014

The Saldanha Cultural Committee and the Saldanha Bay Tourism Organisation will be joining hands this year to combine the celebration of Heritage Day (24 September) and World Tourism Day (27 September).  We invite you to this small event to find out about all the great things you can enjoy while visiting the coastal town of Saldanha.

The day will kick off at 10:00 with a colourful float procession (from Diazville High School through the streets of Saldanha) in conjunction with local schools.  Anyone who would like to dress up in the theme of “Heritage & Flowers” can join in and more floats are also welcomed. The floats are scheduled to arrive at the Cultural Village at 12:00 where the official opening and some entertainment will be taking place over the course of the afternoon.

A treasure hunt for kids will take place at the Hoedjieskop Walking Trail with lots of prizes to be won.  Hurry, as only pre-enteries for groups of 5 school kids will be accepted. Interesting tours through the Fishing Heritage Museum, every half an hour will teach you about the colourful history of Saldanha Bay.

A few other activities will also take place around the Saldanha Cultural Village on the premises of Protea Hotel and Sandstone Lounge just down the road like Local Arts & Crafters, some food and Seafood Stalls, Live music, A beer tent, Kids entertainment such as Putt-Putt, a Jumping Castle, Volleyball, kayak and boat rides.  Talent shows by Local groups includes drama, singing, kwaito, tap dancing, modern dancing and a fashion parade with clothing made from recycled material can be enjoyed at the Malgas Conference Venue, Protea Hotel Saldanha Bay throughout the day.

We have limited bring and braai facilities available on the day and we encourage you to challenge other locals and visitors from our neighbouring towns to join us in Saldanha on National Braai day on 24 September.  The theme for World Tourism Day this year is “Transforming Lives” and we are attempting to hand over all left over food at the end of the event to the needy in our Saldanha Bay community.  If you are able to bring food or would like to make a contribution, please let us know.  We offer free stall space to vendors offering any local products or handmade items.

Meet the friendly people from some of your Local Tourism Organisations and people in the Tourism Industry.  It is through working together that we grow the tourism industry in our beautiful area and that way we all prosper.  We invite anyone with a love for the West Coast to speak to us about becoming a part of these growing organisations in your towns.
