WHALE SPOTTER WORKSHOP for adults only!
The session is based on the Educational Poster On Whales & Dolphins and the Whale Watch Leaflet and includes what is a whale/what is a dolphin/what is a killer whale; the scale of a whale in relationship to elephants and mammoths (this is a link to mathematics and also the West Coast Fossil Park); anatomy and echolocation; species; feeding grounds; how they feed; migration; mating, calving, nursing; threats to their existence and their defences; strandings; conservation - think Blue/think Green – litter/waste management; whale watching tourism; where to watch on the coastline; species; surface behaviour; what to report; how to report including a photograph; where to find your report on the web site/whale sightings log.
This session includes a brief trip down to the nearby Dig site to see a fossilised whale bone from a baleen whale's flipper (refer photo taken at Cape Point Buffelsfontein Information Centre).
At the end of the session, participants will be given a whale watch leaflet as well as a copy of the educational poster on whales and dolphins.
Cost: Adults: R50-00pp. This includes a cuppa filter coffee and a sweet treat on check-in.
What to bring: a pen or a pencil and your whale watch stories.
