On 20 March, Daphne Devey at Bay Gallery will be opening her "Save the Rhino" Exhibition. Daphne sent us the following information:

"In the last 40 years the Rhino population has declined by over 90% and this magnificent animal is now critically endangered.

THE LAST RHINO TO DIE MAY ALREADY HAVE BEEN BORN!

In 2011 the African Western Black Rhino was declared extinct as was the Vietnamese Javan Rhino.

Rhino horn is sold as a supposed ‘remedy’ for pain, fever, acne, laryngitis, mumps, herpes, epilepsy, cancer and as an aphrodisiac.

The horn is comprised of KERATIN, the same material as hair and fingernails!!!!!

Extensive scientific testing has confirmed that Rhino horn is NOT medicine.

China and Vietnam are the worst culprits and in Yemen dagger handles are made.

In 2010, 333 Rhino were slaughtered and in 2011, 443 in South Africa alone.

In September, 2010, 2 wildlife Vets were arrested along with a Tour Operator for illegally killing Rhino and selling their horns.

In January, 2011, another Vet removed horns from 15 Rhino.

Man's greed has led to this! We may be human but are we humane?

A donation to the Wilderness Foundation’s ‘Save the Rhino Fund’ may in some way help to prevent further poaching before Rhino become just a distant memory!

Wilderness Foundation’s banking account is with FIRST NATIONAL BANK. Branch Code: 211417. Account No. 50750071629. Swift No. FIRNZAJJ900

Or you can buy a painting from Bay Gallery, Marra Square, Bree St. Langebaan where 10% from sales will go to the Wilderness Foundation.

The Opening of “SAVE THE RHINO – WILDLIFE EXHIBITION” is on Tuesday, 20th March, 2012 from 6pm to 8pm and the exhibition runs until the end of April."

Please support Daphne in this effort.
