Langebaan Lagoon Celebration |
<< go back to news |
The Langebaan Lagoon Celebration was a great success, and we appreciate all the positive messages that have been received. It was a great showcase of our town, our people, and most importantly of what can be achieved when a group of positive people get together and decide to do something.
Our thanks go to the Langebaan Tourism Committee for all of their hard work, and especially to those who were 'drafted' in to help - Tracy Lee Campbell, Michelle Goldschmidt, Abbi Lindenberg and Heather.
What was most pleasing was how the whole community got involved, whether it was to help with the organisation or management, to run an activity or stall, or to assist with much needed support for the event. A special thanks to Team Langebaan and the Biker Boys, Captain Minnaar and the Langebaan SAPS, and Colonel Nagel and 4 Special Forces.
Also, a special word of thanks to Lynne Pearson and PLAY for the support with the stalls and the Skateboarding demonstration.
There were so many people involved that I cannot thank everybody here, but one person who pulled it all together is Paige Lindenberg who was the main co-ordinator and the one who kept us all on track through the hectic 8 weeks from when we decided to take on the impossible until today when the last tasks were completed.
The most amazing experience of the weekend was the community spirit on display, and the fact that there were no notable incidents over the whole weekend. It was great to see local stall holders benefitting in the street, local talent on the stage, local suppliers doing the marshalling and cleaning, and the local community arriving in their droves to support the initiative.
It was also great to see the activities do well - the April Fools Fly In did better than expected, the Laguna Mall fun run had more participants than expected, as did the Mountain Bike ride, the Langebaan Country Estate Lagoon Celebration Golf Day was full, and the Lagoon Life Round the Island Swim sponsored by Pearly's had 120 entrants as compared to about 70 last year. This is especially pleasing as most of these were not in Bree Street or on the main beach.
As can be expected, not everything went according to plan, and we did not get everything right. The challenge now is to learn from these and improve for next year. Please email your positive and negative comments to me at dave@sbto.co.za so that we can learn. Our apologies to those who were frustrated at times, we will be looking to do better next time.
We love Langebaan!
