25 Members of WWF with Brand and Marketing Officer, Deborah Weber in conjunction with Suzette Pieterse Conservation Officer of Cape West Coast Biosphere and Angela Jones, Tourism Official of Saldanha Bay Tourism Organisation held Mandela Day at St. Andrews Primary School as well as Diazville Primary School in Saldanha.
They already started a sustainable garden in 2012 to teach learners at the different schools the importance of gardening and the origin of food.
The WWF main focus was on Food Gardening and they do their own fund raising projects. Which donated garden equipment, plants and seeds for this day.
Mr. Boltney of Diazville Primary said that the vegetables will be productive for the Feeding Scheme Project at their local school.
Vegetable plants such as green beans, carrots, spring onions, potatoes are planted in the schools garden.
Two books (Setting up and running a school garden) were handed to both schools to improve and help them to manage the food garden during the years.
